SEREMBAN: The DAP's 14-point plan, billed "Gelang Patah Declaration" that was announced on Sunday, is nothing new as it resembles many plans already implemented by Barisan Nasional.
Negri Sembilan MIC information chief Datuk V.S. Mogan said the plan appeared to be derived from existing and ongoing projects that catered to the Indian community in the country.
"There is nothing special about the plan. In fact, the BN government had engaged in many more programmes in the interests of the Indian community.
"What DAP has presented is just a nitty-gritty of it," he told the New Straits Times when met at Wisma Negeri here yesterday.
The former Jeram Padang state assemblyman also questioned the motive behind the move, citing it as DAP's attempt to fish for votes from the Indian community for the 13th general election.
"The concern is why have they only now come out with such a plan? What have they done for the Indian community in Selangor and Penang for the past five years?" he asked.
He said the weak-structured plan also indicated that DAP had run out of ideas in garnering votes for the party and the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) coalition and had now resorted to turning its focus on the Indian community to win the general election.
Pointing out the resemblance, Mogan said the Indian community should not be deceived by such a plan, which he described as an attempt to manipulate and woo the community into voting for the party and the PKR coalition.
"They said they will resolve the problem of stateless Indians after taking over, but the BN-led government had done the same through the Special Implementation Task Force, which has been working hard to resolve the issues through many campaigns and programmes.
"The government in fact had announced the housing loan provided for Indian plantation workers to ease their burden in purchasing houses, and had announced the Changing Destiny of 1Malaysia Indian Children programme in February to provide a second chance for Indian students who did not achieve excellent results to pursue higher education at universities."
